Single Session Counselling
One problem. One focus. One session.*
Single-session therapy (SST) is an innovative approach to mental health care that emphasises accessibility, client empowerment, and timely interventions. By challenging traditional models, SST offers a flexible alternative that meets diverse needs and promotes positive change in just one session.
What's the idea behind Single-Session Counselling?
Single-session therapy (SST) is a type of counselling designed to help people in just one meeting. It goes against the traditional idea that real change takes a long time and focuses on making the first session as effective as possible.
While some clients may only come in for one session, SST is more than just a one-time experience. It offers a complete therapeutic experience with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Clients can choose to have more sessions if they want, and this is often encouraged. However, the main focus is on getting the most out of the first meeting.
How do we approach SST?
SST uses blends several different approaches to counselling:
1. Solution-focused therapy focuses on finding solutions instead of just discussing problems. It helps you think about you goals and how to achieve them.
2. Cognitive-behavioural Therapy (CBT) examines how thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are connected. It can be adjusted for sessions that last a single meeting.
3. Systemic Therapy examines how people are connected within their relationships. Systemic therapists try to understand and address the dynamics that lead to the issue.
4. Psychodynamic Therapy is based on psychoanalytic ideas and may involve giving a clear interpretation or helping clients gain insight during the session.
SST allows counsellors to combine different methods and tailor their support to meet your specific needs.
Single-Session Counselling works best when we agree...
That change can happen in a single session – if we don’t believe this, then a single session is unlikely to help.
That you already have skills and experiences that can be drawn upon to help you resolve whatever issues you are now facing.
Complex problems do not always need complex solutions.
Just to be clear:
It is important to realise that single-session counselling is not there to help you overcome emotional and behavioural problems; if that is the help you need, I would strongly recommend that ongoing therapy, short- or long-term, would be your best option.
Single-session counselling is there to help you get unstuck and back in the game again with something practical to help improve your situation. Single-session counselling will not provide a dramatic cure for everything – nor will long-term therapy, for that matter.

FaceTime to understand what you want from the single session. - Once we are clear about the objectives of the single session, I will send you another link to book the single session for the agreed length of time.
- All single-session counselling services are held on either Google Meet or FaceTime.
- At the end of the single-session, we will agree on a date for the follow-up, and I will send you a link.
Paying for the sessions
I will send you an invoice when we agree on the single-session counselling objectives. You can pay by BACS transfer (this is the preferred option) or follow a link to my payment processor, details of which will be on the invoice. The cost will reflect the time we work together and the follow-on call; at an hourly rate of £80.
Is a single session enough?
With a targeted single-session counselling approach, many people who use this option find that one session is enough for them to get unstuck and move forward, often returning later to catch up and address another issue.
Single sessions are not a replacement for short- or long-term counselling.
We can move into the short-term, solution-focused counselling approach if you need to go deeper into a problem due to the single session.
